The 10 Days Uganda Rwanda Congo Safari holiday tour commences in Kampala Uganda and ends in Kigali Rwanda traversing all the three countries noted to be the primate hot spots in the world. Day 1: Transfer to Fort Portal Area, tour Amabere g’Nyinamwiru caves, hike the Fort Portal crater Area and transfer to Kibale National Park

Day 2: Undertake a whole day Chimpanzee Habituation & transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Day 3: Do morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, afternoon Kazinga Channel boat cruise, and game drive along the channel track

Day 4 : Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Do game drive in Ishasha sector in search of tree climbing lions

Day 5: Do Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Day 1 of the 10 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Transfer to Fort Portal Area, tour Amabere g’Nyinamwiru caves, hike the Fort Portal crater Area and transfer to Kibale National Park

After breakfast at your place of stay in Entebbe, transfer to Fort Portal area 300km about 6 hours’ drive exploring the scenic views of en route landscapes including Mubende inselbergs. Hot lunch will be served in Fort Portal town after which can proceed to the lodge in Kibale Area or choose to visit the Amabere g’ Nyinamwiru caves and hike the Fort Portal crater lake field – an activity which lasts about 2 hours.  The Amabere caves have breast-like features which the locals believe they are breasts of Nnyinamwiru – a daughter of Bukuku a self-enthroned King of the Bachwezi who denied his daughter a chance to breast feed her son in fear that her son would over throw him.  The hike to the Fort Portal crater field offers incredible views of various crater hollows and lakes that mark this explosion crater which is one of the four of its kind existing in Uganda. The views of the Rwenzori Mountains can be viewed at a distance.

Day 2 of the 10 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Undertake a whole day Chimpanzee Habituation & transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Embark on exciting Chimpanzee Habituation experience which starts at 6am from the Kanyanchu Tourism center.  It’s a whole day activity spending great time with Chimpanzees from the time they depart their nests to the time they form new nests in the evening at 7pm. Enjoy them as they forage, socialize, mate, make pant hooting calls, hunt, patrol among other activities.  Being a whole day in the forest, you also have great sights of lush flora and a range of impressive bird species. You retreat from the activity at about 4pm and embark on the transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park 157km from Kibale about 3 hours’ drive. The drive will also expose you to the scenic Mountains of the moon – the Rwenzoris towering up to 5,109m high with snowcapped peaks before approaching the rolling savannah plain of Queen Elizabeth & eventually at the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3 of the 10 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, afternoon Kazinga Channel boat cruise and game drive along the channel track

Settle for breakfast at 6:30am and transfer to the park to start at the game drive at 7am. The savannah plains of Kasenyi sector offers incredible chances of viewing a range of wild game including four of the Big five namely; Elephants, Buffaloes, Lions & Buffaloes, other wild game such as Defassa waterbucks, spotted hyena, Topis among others. The game drive lasts 3 – 4 hours.  Drive to Mweya peninsular for hot lunch at Tembo restaurant before gathering at Mweya jetty for an afternoon Kazinga Channel boat ride departing at 2pm. The majestic Kazinga Channel boat cruise lasts for 2 hours offering good recreational moments, likely views of Nile crocodiles, Hippos, bird species on the shores and wild game drinking on the shores. From the boat, you do an evening game drive along the channel track for more wild game viewing possibilities.

Day 4 of the 10 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Do game drive in Ishasha sector in search of tree climbing lions

After breakfast, embark on the transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You undertake a 1.5 – 2-hour game drive in the Ishasha sector in the south of Queen Elizabeth National Park in search of tree climbing lions and other wild game. The Ishasha is one of the only two places in the world where tree climbing lions can be encountered. They tend to lie in fig tree branches in the daytime. Continue on the drive to arrive in Bwindi in the evening for relaxation, dinner, and overnight

Day 5 of the 10 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

You connect to the briefing point at 8am after breakfast. Depending on the region and the respective gorilla family allocated, you follow the respective trail (some trails involve some bit of driving while others start from the briefing point) with company of the armed park ranger and other guests if they are there. The trek through the forest is a magical one as you hike steep slopes, descend down narrow valleys and traverse the dense vegetation of Bwindi amidst lush flora and enchanting bird songs. You eventually come across these gentle giants in their natural habitat as they feed on their preferred plant material, socialize and the young ones playing in the tree branches and with fellow members. The Silverback can choose to offer you a courteous welcome or ignore you and proceed with its feeding. You spend great time with these critically endangered Apes and take million-dollar photoshoots. The duration of the trek is 2 – 8 hours depending their movement though the actual gorilla viewing time is limited to one (1) for purposes of conservation. After your one hour with the gorillas, return to the starting point and transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park enjoying the views of Kigezi Highlands.  You are welcomed by the scenic Virunga Mountains and spend the evening relaxing at the lodge.

Day 6 of the 10 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do golden monkey tracking in Mgahinga National Park & cross to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park

Undertake a hike to the slopes of Mount Gahinga one of the three Volcanic Mountains in the park in search of the endangered golden monkeys.  These are unique species of primate known to be thriving in the Virunga massif on a world scale. They feature a golden patch on their back and it really beautiful to view them as they jump on the bamboo branches. The direct viewing is limited to one hour while the entire trek lasts 4 hours.  Retreat from the activity and embark on the drive to Volcanoes National Park crossing via Chanika border. The evening is reserved for relaxation and eventually dinner and overnight

Day 7 of the 10 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park & transfer to Lake Kivu Gisenyi

The Gorilla trekking in Rwanda starts at Kinigi park station in Volcanoes National Park. You enjoy the traditional Intore performance before the briefing and a hot cup of coffee. Briefing starts at 8am after which you connect to the trail heads to embark on the gorilla trekking encounter.  Depending on the gorilla group allocated and how far it has moved that day, the trek lasts 2 – 8 hours and involves one full hour of Gorilla viewing and impressive photoshoots. From the activity, you drive to Gisenyi Lake Kivu 110km about 2 hours’ drive and spend the rest of the day at leisure. An optional boat ride on the lake can be arranged.

Day 8 of the 10 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Drive to Kahuzi Biega National Park in Congo crossing via the Cyangungu border

After breakfast, you embark on the transfer to Bukavu in Democratic Republic of Congo. The drive takes you along the views of Lake Kivu and the Congo Nile divide trail before arriving at Cyangugu to cross the Congo border. The evening is spent in Bukavu as you await the low land gorilla trekking in Kahuzi Biega National Park – the following day.

Day 9 of the 10 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do low land gorilla trekking in Kahuzi Biega National Park

Embark on the Eastern low land gorilla trekking adventure in Kahuzi Biega National Park exploring the other gorilla subspecies besides the Mountain Gorillas. The Eastern Lowland Gorillas have stocky body, short muzzle and less hairy compared to Mountain Gorillas.  The trek offers a perfect moment to gain diverse experience with these two-gorilla subspecies. Retreat from the activity and spend the evening relaxing at the lodge.

Day 10 of the 10 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Drive to Kigali

After breakfast, set off for the transfer to Kigali crossing into Rwanda via Ruzizi 1 border.  You drive past Nyungwe Forest National Park which has one of the largest Afro-montane forests in Central Africa, make a lunch stop in Butare. An optional visit to the National Museum of Rwanda and Nyanza Palace can be arranged for an amazing culture and heritage experience of Rwanda. Proceed to Kigali to mark the end of the safari
