Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park & visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary en route for Rhino tracking

Day 1 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park & visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary en route for Rhino tracking

After breakfast at 6:30am, drive to Murchison Falls National Park 311km from Kampala about 5 hours’ drive excluding stops en route enjoying good views of the flat stretches of Nakasongora district. A stop will be made at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary 7km off the main road at Nakitooma to track the southern white Rhinos which only thrive here in the whole of Uganda following their re-introduction in 2005. The Rhino trek lasts about 2 hours exploring the members of the Big five family, settle for lunch at Kabalega dinner before proceeding on the drive to Murchison Falls National Park for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 2 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do morning game drive in the northern sector of Murchison, afternoon Nile launch cruise and hike to the top of the falls

Depending on where you spent the previous night, you start the game drive between 6am – 7am in the northern sector of the park for 3 – 4 hours. The exciting game drive offers possibilities of exploring a range of wild game including Jackson’s Hartebeest, Rothschild Giraffes, Elephants, Buffalos, Lions, Leopard, Uganda Kob, Oribis among others. Settle for lunch and at 2pm, you gather for an afternoon Nile launch cruise departing at Paraa Jetty.  The recreational launch cruise offers incredible possible sights of Nile crocodiles, Hippos, a range of birds such as the vulnerable shoebill stork and the wild game drinking on the shores.   You are welcomed by the world’s most powerful water fall which you will follow the course on foot. You dis embark from the boat and take up this adventure hike viewing the mighty Nile River – world’s longest squeezing itself to pass through a less than 7m ravine before falling 43m below the Devil’s Cauldron forming a plume of spray marked with a trade mark rainbow.  You connect with your guide at the top of the falls and then drive to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Transfer to Kibale National Park. Whole day drive exploring the en route countryside landscapes

Transfer after breakfast to Kibale National Park 366km about 8 hours’ drive exploring the scenic rural landscapes of Hoima and Kagadi.  A hot lunch stop will be made in Hoima and you will arrive in Kibale in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 4 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park & transfer to Kasese

Chimpanzee trekking is one of the incredible safari activities in Uganda and Kibale National Park dubbed the Primate capital of the world has the best Chimp sightings in the whole of Africa. Briefing commences at 8am at Kanyanchu Tourism centre after which you follow the established forest trails in search of Chimpanzees – Man’s closest relative in the Ape family. Kibale is a rich forest with beautiful flora, amazing bird species of up to 375 species, and 13 species of primates. The one hour with Chimps as they forage and socialize will make your trek memorable. The entire depending on how far the Chimps have moved takes 2 – 5 hours. Return from the activity, settle for lunch after which you transfer to Kasese 135km about 2 hours drive.

Day 5 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Whole day hike to the Rwenzori Mountains – the legendary Mountains of the moon

After breakfast, gather at Nyakalengija park station at 8am for briefing after which you embark on a day hike to Rwenzori Mountains. Rising to 5,109m above sea level with snow-capped peaks, Mount Rwenzori is the third highest on the continent of Africa. The day hike allows you to explore the foothills of legendary feature marked with lush forest, flowing glacial rivers and beautiful bird species. As you hike up hill, you enjoy the views of the Albertine flats and local settlement below. From the activity, you transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park 72km about 2 hours’ drive for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 6 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park & afternoon Kazinga Channel boat ride

Settle for breakfast at 6:30am and transfer to the park to start at the game drive at 7am. The savannah plains of Kasenyi sector offers incredible chances of viewing a range of wild game including four of the Big five namely; Elephants, Buffaloes, Lions & Buffaloes, other wild game such as Defassa waterbucks, spotted hyena, Topis among others. The game drive lasts 3 – 4 hours.  Drive to Mweya peninsular for hot lunch at Tembo restaurant before gathering at Mweya jetty for an afternoon Kazinga Channel boat ride departing at 2pm. The majestic Kazinga Channel boat cruise lasts for 2 hours offering good recreational moments, likely views of Nile crocodiles, Hippos, bird species on the shores and wild game drinking on the shores. From the boat, you do an evening game drive along the channel track for more wild game viewing possibilities.

Day 7 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do game drive en route in Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park in search of tree climbing lions

After breakfast, embark on the transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You undertake a 1.5 – 2-hour game drive in Ishasha sector in the south of Queen Elizabeth National Park in search of tree climbing lions and other wild game. The Ishasha is one of the only two places in the world where tree climbing lions can be encountered. They tend to lie in fig tree branches in the day time. Continue on the drive to arrive in Bwindi in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park commences at 8am with briefing after which you traverse the impenetrable landscapes with dense forest in search of the Mountain Gorillas that are known to be critically endangered world over. The 2 – 8-hour trek in the forest does not only offer the lasting moments with the Gorillas for one full hour but also impressive sights of lush flora and birds.  Retreat from the trek and transfer to Volcanoes National Park – crossing at Chanica border post.

Day 9 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do Golden Monkey tracking in Volcanoes Np & afternoon recreation at the sandy beaches of Gisenyi -Lake Kivu

Gather at the park headquarters Kinigi for briefing at 8am before heading to the forest in search of the critically endangered golden monkeys. The golden monkeys tend to thrive in the Bamboo zone of the Volcanoes and have got a golden patch on their back which makes them impressive to look at. The golden monkey tracking tends to last about 4 hours inclusive of one (1) hour of direct encounter with them. After this activity, transfer 110km about 2 hour’s drive to Gisenyi Lake Kivu and spend the rest of day at leisure by the beach.

Day 10 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Undertake an adventure hike to Nyiragongo Volcano – the world’s most violent lava lake

Cross the Congo boarder at Goma at 7:30am Rwandan time and transfer to Kibati Patrol post 1hr drive from the boarder.  This marks the beginning of a lasting adventure hike the world’s largest and most violent lava lake at the top of Nyiragongo Volcano rising to 3470m above sea level.  The hike to the summit takes about 4 – 6 hours and you spend the great evening at the summit waiting to gaze into the lava lake after dark.

Day 11 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Descend from Nyiragongo Volcano & relax on the shores of Lake Kivu

You can wake up very early for the sun rise experience after which you settle for breakfast and then embark on the descend back to Kibati gaining views of other Virunga Mountain, dense Congo jungle & Lake Kivu.  You spend the evening on the shores of Lac Kivu refreshing from the Mountain trek.

Day 12 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Speed boat transfer to Bukavu – Kahuzi Biega National Park

Transfer by speed boat from North Kivu Province to South Kivu Province enjoying incredible views of Lake Kivu. You meet the guide and the vehicle at the beach on Bukavu side and transfer to the hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 13 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do Eastern Lowland Gorilla Trekking & cross to Rwanda – Nyungwe Forest Np

Embark on the Eastern low land gorilla trekking adventure in Kahuzi Biega National Park exploring the other gorilla subspecies besides the Mountain Gorillas. The Eastern Lowland Gorillas have stocky body, short muzzle and less hairy compared to Mountain Gorillas.  The trek offers a perfect moment to gain diverse experience with these two-gorilla subspecies. Retreat from the activity and transfer to Rwanda’s Nyungwe Forest National Park crossing at Ruzizi 1 boarder post.

Day 14 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest NP & afternoon adventure Nyungwe canopy walk

Depart the lodge at 5am to transfer to Cyamudongo Forest for Chimp trekking experience. Briefing commences at 8am before setting off to the forest in the company of the park ranger guide in search of Chimpanzees – man’s closest Ape in terms of DNA. The trek offers good views of lush flora, birds and other primate species such as the Black and White Colobus monkeys. The Chimp Trek lasts 2 – 5 hours inclusive of one hour with the chimps. Retreat from the activity, relax at the lodge, enjoy lunch and in the afternoon, connect to the Uwinka visitor center for the adventure canopy walk. This is a lasting adventure experience walking over 60m high off the group amidst the lush canopy of Nyungwe. It’s a long stretch with likely sights of birds, and butterflies and takes about 2 hours to accomplish.

Day 15 of the 16 Days Uganda Congo Rwanda Safari: Do Colobus Monkey tracking in Nyungwe Forest Np & transfer to Kigali. Optional visit to the National Museum of Rwanda en route in Butare & Nyanza Palace

Undertake the Colobus Monkey tracking in the forest of Nyungwe exploring one of the 13 primate species found in Nyungwe Forest.  Nyungwe Forest is recorded to have the largest grouping of Black and White Colobus Monkeys in the whole of Africa of over 400 individuals. The young ones are all white in color while the mature ones have black and white coat and are surely nice for photography. From the activity, you embark on the drive to Kigali 268km about 6 hours drive.   An optional heritage tour can be made at National Museum of Rwanda in Butare or the Nyanza Royal Palace.
