Day 1: Arrive At Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) & Transfer To Your Hotel.

After touching down at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam, our representative will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall of the airport with your name on a signboard. After loading your luggage into our comfortable 4×4 vehicle, he will transfer you to your overnight accommodation in Dar es Salaam.

Dar es Salaam city, commonly known as ‘Dar’ is located on the coast of the beautiful Indian Ocean. It is the largest city and financial hub of Tanzania, but it is not the capital of the country – that title belongs to Dodoma. With a population of over 6 million people, Dar is the largest city in East Africa and the seventh-largest in Africa.

The city was founded in 1866. Day 2: Transfer Nyerere National Park. Enjoy A Boat Cruise On the Rufiji River.

The second day of your 20 days Tanzania safari begins at 6.00 am with an early breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, a 5-hour drive will take you to Nyerere National Park (formerly the northern part of Selous Game Reserve).

Named after independent Tanzania’s first president, Julius Nyerere – an iconic figure in Tanzania’s history, the park is wild, remote, beautiful, and one of Africa’s largest untouched wilderness areas, spanning 30,893km2. It is larger than seventy countries in the world and it’s one of Tanzania’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. As there are few camps/lodges, you will not encounter many cars during your time here.

You will reach your lodge/camp in time for lunch. After lunch, take a leisurely boat ride on Tanzania’s largest river, the great Rufiji River, gliding past vast pods of hippos, enormous Crocodiles, and a plethora of birdlife including storks, spoonbills, and bee-eaters. After a riverboat safari, return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Enjoy Unlimited Game Drives In Nyerere National Park.

On the third day of your 20 days Tanzania safari, your expert local guide will take you on morning and afternoon game drives in this incredible reserve, and you’ll return to your camp in the heat of the day for lunch and relaxation.

Nyerere NP is a sanctuary for the Big 5 and Africa’s top predators like lions, leopards, cheetah, wild dogs, and spotted hyenas. The park is also known for its large buffalo and elephant herds, and large populations of giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, hippo, and sable antelope. It holds over 50% of the remaining population of the critically endangered African wild dog (Painted wolves).

Wild dogs are very rare animals. Anyone who has a sighting of wild dogs should consider themselves very lucky, and Nyerere is one of the few African game parks where you are likely to see them. After a busy day, relax this evening enjoying sunset by the river and dinner in the lodge/camp.

Day 4: Walking Safari & Game Drive In Nyerere National Park.

On day 4 of the 20 days Tanzania safari, enjoy another full day, exploring the incredible wilderness of Nyerere National Park.

You’ll begin with a morning walking safari. You’ll be accompanied by expert local rangers who will share their knowledge and passion for the park’s flora and fauna. Your bush walk will allow you to appreciate the smaller details, from the beautiful birds (the park has over 400 bird species) to paw prints on the ground. After a bush walk, return to the camp for breakfast and relaxation.

Then proceed on a game drive with a packed lunch. Nyerere NP supports enormously large population of mammals, including around 150,000 Buffalos, 40,000 Hippos, 35,000 Zebras, 25,000 Impalas, 100,000 Wildebeests, and 4,000 Lions. After a day filled with adventure, once again return to camp for relaxation and dinner. Then you will retire to your room for a good night’s rest.

Day 5: Flight Transfer to Ruaha National Park for A Game Drive.

After a leisurely breakfast on day five of your 20 days Tanzania safari, transfer to the bush airstrip for your flight to Ruaha National Park.

Ruaha is the second largest national park in Tanzania, spanning some 20,000km² (2 million hectares) of unspoiled wilderness, and hosts diverse wildlife, birds, and flora. However, only 1% of visitors to Tanzania go on safari at Ruaha.

Also known as the country’s best-kept secret, Ruaha offers a truly remote, wild, untouched piece of Africa at its finest. The park offers a perfect combination of breathtaking beauty, a profusion of predators, and an unparalleled sense of isolation and peace. On landing, you’ll be transferred to your camp or lodge for lunch.

Day 6: Whole Day Game Drive in Ruaha National Park.

You have a full day to enjoy Ruaha today. After breakfast, with a picnic lunch, enjoy a game drive to witness a variety of wildlife. Explore the park’s diverse dramatic landscapes, which include rolling hills; large open plains; ancient Africa’s baobab trees, and the Great Ruaha River – from which the park gets its name.

Ruaha has a significant population of predators. The park is home to around 10 percent of the world’s lion population and it is one of Tanzania’s Lion Conservation Units, with regular sightings of large prides of 20 or more lions. Leopard, the cheetah, spotted hyena, and painted wolf (African wild dog) sightings are also frequent. You may even get the opportunity to spot the rare striped hyena.

Ruaha is also home to around 12,000 elephants and big herds of buffalo. It is one of the few places where greater and lesser kudu occurs together. It is also possible to see, Sable and Roan antelope, Lichtenstein’s Hartebeest, Topi, both Southern and Bohor reedbuck, Grants Gazelle, Zebras, Waterbucks, Impalas, giraffes, etc…

Day 7: Walking Safari & Game Drive In Ruaha National Park. Optional Night Game Drive.

Once again, wake up early for a full day safari in this wonderful reserve. You start with a morning cup of coffee/tea before going on a guided bush walk.

Your walk will focus on the smaller details of the bush; tracking animals by their footprints, stopping to admire birdlife (Ruaha has over 570 species), and watching smaller creatures and their behaviors without the noise and disturbance of a vehicle.

Marvel at the park’s ancient baobab trees which are among some of the largest in Africa. Even African elephants, the largest land animals on Earth are dwarfed by these massive trees towering over them.  After a bush walk, return to the lodge for a good breakfast and some relaxation. Then proceed on a game drive with a packed lunch to discover more wildlife.

After an early breakfast, take a 45-minute drive to Arusha NP for a morning game drive. This scenic park of about 137km2 encompasses Mount Meru – a dormant volcano with an elevation of 4,562m and the centerpiece of the park.

Explore the park’s stunning landscapes, including ancient fig tree forests, sulfur lakes, and meandering mountain streams, and look out for many species of wildlife such as colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, giraffes, Flamingos, Zebras, Elephants, Buffalos, Hippos, Waterbucks, Bushbucks, Dik-dik, and Warthog.

After a game drive, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the late afternoon, go for a community walk. Tour the colorful local markets and get a feel for African local life in Tanzania. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Transfer to Tarangire National Park for A Game Drive.

After a relaxed breakfast on day ten of the 20 days Tanzania safari, embark on a beautiful 2-hour drive southwest to Tarangire National Park.

You’ll arrive in time for lunch at your lodge. After lunch, have some time to relax and go on the afternoon go on a game drive. Tarangire National Park is named after the Tarangire River, which attracts a lot of animals during the dry season. The park is renowned for hosting Tanzania’s largest herds of elephants and hundreds of the mythical ‘Upside Down Trees’ (baobabs) – some over 1000 years old.

Elephants are often present in huge herds that may number up to 300 individuals – an incredible sight for even the most seasoned safari-goer.

Explore the park as you look for the gigantic African elephants and baobab trees. Visit the Silale Swamp, a significant part of the Tarangire ecosystem. The swamp covers 70km2 and it acts like a giant sponge during the rainy season and slowly releases water during the dry season, attracting thousands of animals.

A mix of animals of all shapes and sizes can be spotted here – including the Big Cats! It is a great place to see the famous tree-climbing lions of Tarangire as well as leopards and African wild dogs. To add to the collection, the Silale Swamps are also known as a great place to see huge African Rock Pythons. And if you’re a bird lover, this is a great place to see many of the park’s 550 bird species.

You again return to the lodge for your final dinner and overnight here. Tomorrow you’re off to the legendary Serengeti!

The gorge is where in 1959 that Mary Leakey discovered a 1.8-million-year-old ape-like skull from an early hominin (human-like being) now known as Australopithecus boisei. This discovery, along with that of fossils of over 60 early hominids, including Homo habilis and Homo erectus, fundamentally changed our understanding of the evolution of man.
